There is a boom for vegan products right now and the meat consumption is falling in many EU countries. But what are the political demands of the European vegan movement and what is the political situation for veg-friendly measures at the EU level?
During this digital Vegoforum themed Veg in the EU, we’ll learn more about these issues from Jeroom Remmers, director of the TAPP Coalition, Dr Emanuele Zannini, coordinator of the Smart Protein Project and Malin Björk, Member of the European Parliament from the Swedish Left Party.
The invited guests each give a short presentation and then participate in a moderated panel discussion. We pick up audience questions via the chat on Zoom – so feel free to be interactive and ask questions! The language of the event is English.

Det är en boom för vegoprodukter just nu och köttkonsumtionen sjunker i många EU-länder. Men vilka politiska krav driver den europeiska vegorörelsen och hur ser det politiska läget för vegofrämjande åtgärder ut på EU-nivå?
Under detta digitala Vegoforum via Zoom med temat Vego i EU får vi lära oss mer om vad som händer i vegofrågan i EU från Jeroom Remmers, föreståndare för TAPP-koalitionen, Dr Emanuele Zannini, koordinator för The Smart Protein Project och Malin Björk, EU-parlamentariker från Vänsterpartiet.

The topic of the talk are the efforts of TAPP Coalition in The Netherlands, EU and internationally to reduce meat consumption by true pricing of meat, e.g. through meat taxes, and using revenues for more healthy diets and sustainable farming. Currently, there is an ongoing Carbon Pricing Food Campaign, including many partner organisations internationally. |

Nevertheless, the union keeps sporting a Common Agriculture Policy that operates in the diametrically opposite direction, continuing to support conventional farming and extensive meat production. What should we do? |

TAPP (True Animal Protein Price) Coalition is an association of companies and organizations advocating that consumers should be charged the true price of animal products. Today, the production of meat, dairy, eggs and other animal products is subsidized, while taxpayers bear all the environmental and health costs associated with the production and consumption of animal products. Including these costs in the price at the store would make consumers aware of the costs and reduce consumption.
TAPP (True Animal Protein Price) Coalition är en sammanslutning av företag och organisationer som förespråkar att det verkliga priset för animaliska produkter ska tas ut av konsumenter. Idag subventioneras produktionen av kött, mejeriprodukter, ägg och andra animalier, samtidigt som skattebetalarna står för hela kostnaden för den miljöförstöring och ohälsa produktionen och konsumtionen av animalier orsakar. Att inkludera dessa kostnader i priset i affären skulle göra konsumenterna uppmärksamma på kostnaderna och få konsumtionen att sjunka.
The Smart Protein Project is an EU-funded project with the goal of developing new ingredients and foods, which have a positive impact on bioeconomy, environment, biodiversity, nutrition and food safety and to create consumer confidence and acceptance of the new products. The project includes 33 partners from 22 countries, where partner organizations are research institutions as well as agricultural networks, food companies and non-profit organizations.
The Smart Protein Project är ett EU-finansierat projekt med målet att utveckla nya ingredienser och livsmedel, som har en positiv inverkan på bioekonomi, miljö, biologisk mångfald, näring och livsmedelssäkerhet samt skapa förtroende och acceptans hos konsumenterna för de nya produkterna. Projektet inkluderar 33 partners från 22 länder, där partnerorganisationer är såväl forskningsinstitutioner som lantbrukarnätverk, livsmedelsföretag och ideella organisationer.
Malin Björk represents the Swedish Left party in The Left group in the European Parliament and is particularly committed to working for human rights, equality and climate justice. Malin wants to see a transformation of the EU common agricultural policy, so that it stops subsidizing the unsustainable meat industry.
Malin Björk representerar Vänsterpartiet i Vänstergruppen i EU-parlamentet och engagerar sig särskilt för mänskliga rättigheter, jämlikhet och klimaträttvisa. Malin vill se en omdaning av EU:sjordbrukspolitik så att den slutar subventionera den ohållbara köttindustrin.
